Princess Kate, the wife of Britain's Crown Prince William, has left the London hospital where she had been a patient since January 16 to undergo abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace said, AFP reported.
"The Princess of Wales has returned to her home in Windsor to continue her recovery from the operation. She is making good progress," the palace said in a statement.
"The Prince and Princess would like to extend their warmest thanks to all the team at the London Clinic, and in particular the dedicated medical staff, for their care," the palace added.
The family "remains grateful for the good wishes they have received from around the world," they added.
The announcement that 42-year-old Kate had been admitted to hospital for "abdominal surgery" came as a surprise to the UK, especially as the palace had not given any details of the illness the princess was suffering from.
The palace then warned that her recovery at her Windsor home was expected to last at least until Easter on March 31.
During that time the Princess will not be part of any official engagements for the Crown.
During her 13-day stay in hospital, the princess was visited by her husband William, who also reduced his workload to prioritise his family.
King Charles III also came to visit Kate when he himself was admitted to the same elite clinic in central London for elective prostate surgery.
According to the palace, the 75-year-old royal made the operation public to encourage screenings for this common condition in older men. / BGNES
