Juan Soto signs with Mets most lucrative professional sports contract in history

Juan Soto has officially signed with the New York Mets, agreeing to a mind-blowing $765 million deal over the next 15 years. It will also be the most lucrative professional contract in history.

The 26-year-old joins the Mets after just one season with the New York Yankees, who lost the World Series in October. The Mets will be Soto's fourth team in the last four years.

The Yankees had offered four-time All-Star Soto a 16-year, $760 million contract. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox were also interested in him, but the Dominican chose to move from Bronx to Queens.

ESPN reported that the deal includes a $75 million signing bonus, no deferred money, no trade clause and option to leave after five years. The Mets can get rid of it by increasing his salary from $51 million to $55 million over the final 10 years of the agreement. If New York exercises the option, the deal will swell to $805 million, further surpassing the previous record held by Shohei Ohtani, who signed with the LA Dodgers for $700 million last year. | BGNES
