Jessica Hull broke the women's 2000m world record during the Diamond League athletics tournament in Monaco. The 27-year-old star from New South Wales recorded another stunning performance that establishes her as a real Olympic medal contender.
She recorded a time of 5:19.70 to consign to history the previous best of 5:21.56 set by Francine Nyonsaba (Burundi) three years ago.
"It's unbelievable to call yourself a world record holder. I'm running so fast now because I've been healthy for four years and I have a really strong body," explained Hull herself, who has been through a number of injuries in her career.
"It's been amazing. When I was on my own on the last lap, everyone was happy for me," said the excited athlete.
Hull's first Diamond League win came just five days ago after she improved her personal best by five seconds in the 1500m in Paris, setting a new Oceania record of 3:50.83. The Australian was beaten only by Kenyan great Faith Kipyegon, who broke the world record in the discipline - 3:49.04 minutes.
Hull's achievement propelled her into fifth place on the all-time world rankings. | BGNES
