Japan: US blocking steel deal raises investment concerns

President Joe Biden's blocking of the Nippon Steel takeover of US Steel has raised concerns among Japanese firms about future investment in the US, the Japanese prime minister said.

"It is unfortunately true that concerns are being raised in Japan's industrial world about future Japanese-American investment," Shigeru Ishiba stated after Biden blocked the $14.9 billion deal.

Ishiba called for clarity on why the deal was blocked, AFP reported.

"They should be able to explain clearly why there is a national security concern," he said. | BGNES
