On January 13, southwestern Japan was rocked by an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, prompting authorities to issue a tsunami warning, AFP reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued the warning for tsunami waves up to one metre high after the quake off Miyazaki prefecture in Kyushu district.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has revised its assessment from 6.9, adding that "there is no tsunami danger from this earthquake."
However, the YMA urged the public to stay away from coastal waters.
"A tsunami could strike repeatedly. Please stay out of the sea and stay away from coastal areas," the agency said on social network X. | BGNES
