A barrier erected in Japan to block a popular view of Mount Fuji has been removed - at least for now - after it succeeded in discouraging unruly tourists.
Fujikawaguchiko put up the roadblock in May because residents complained of huge streams of foreign visitors causing problems as they tried to take pictures of Japan's famous volcano.
The city removed the barrier on August 15 due to the threat of a typhoon and decided not to put it up again.
"We wanted to see what would happen," a city administration official told AFP.
The city's fight against unruly tourists made international headlines as a record number of tourists arrived in Japan this summer, sparking some resentment among locals. I BGNES
