World No. 1 Jannick Sinner advanced to the third round of the Australian Open after defeating home team Tristan Schoolkeit 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.
Wildcard Sinner, ranked 173rd in the world, played at a very high level in the first set and even managed to win it with aggressive and precise baseline play and frequent attacks at the net. The second half was evenly matched until 3-3 when Sinner managed to get his first break of the match and then had no problem closing the set on his own serve.
The Italian dominated the next two sets and had no problem reaching the victory after two hours and 46 minutes of play. Last year's champion finished the match with 42 winning shots against 29 unforced errors.
For a place in the round of 16, Sinner will argue with American Marcos Giron, who defeated Argentine Tomas Echeverri in five sets.
Holger Rune, Karen Khachanov, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Gael Monfils, Lorenzo Musetti and Ben Shelton also qualified for the third round. | BGNES
