Borussia Dortmund have re-signed Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on loan until the end of the season. Sancho is back at the Bundesliga club two-and-a-half years after joining United for £73m but has not played for the Red Devils since August last year after falling out with manager Eric Ten Hag. Manchester United were open to offers for the 23-year-old, who eventually made an official move to his former club in Germany.
"When I walked into the dressing room today, I felt like I was coming home. I know the club very well, I've always been very close to the supporters here and I've never lost touch with the management. I can't wait to see my teammates again, get out on the pitch, to play football with a smile on my face, to assist, to score and to help the team qualify for the Champions League", he told Dortmund's club website.
Dortmund will contribute around €3.5m during his time in Germany, plus a potential €4m in bonuses based on their progress in the Champions League, Bundesliga performances and appearances with the team. "He is excited to play and get back to his best", Sancho's representatives told Sky Sports News.
Sancho's contract at Old Trafford runs until 2026, with United having the option to extend it by a further season. There is no option to buy in the deal between the Red Devils and Dortmund. Before playing for the Manchester team, Sancho scored 50 goals and provided 64 assists in 137 games for Dortmund. That tally included 16 goals and 20 assists the year before he moved to the Premier League. Sancho will wear the number 10 shirt on his return to the Bundesliga. /BGNES
