US President Joe Biden will travel to Italy next month to meet separately with Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and Pope Francis, the White House announced. It is likely to be his last trip abroad before he leaves office.
The Jan. 9-12 visit is intended to strengthen U.S.-Italian relations and express gratitude to Meloni for her "strong leadership of the G-7 over the past year."
Biden, who is a fervent Catholic, will have an audience with Pope Francis. The two will discuss "efforts to strengthen peace in the world," Jean-Pierre said.
Biden's trip to Italy will take place days before he hands over power to Donald Trump. | BGNES
