An Israeli strike on a Gaza City school turned shelter for displaced people has killed 17 people, AFP reports.
"At least 17 martyrs, including 8 children, and more than 30 wounded, most of them children and women... after an Israeli rocket strike on Al-Zaytoun S school in Gaza City," Gaza Civil Defense Agency spokesman Mahmoud Bassal said.
He added that thousands of displaced people have sought shelter in the school.
A statement from the Israeli military (IDF) said the air force had "dealt a precision strike on terrorists who were operating in a Hamas command and control center in Gaza City."
The IDF said the target was "embedded inside" the Al Falah school, which is adjacent to the Al Zeitoun school buildings.
The military did not report the number of casualties, but said "numerous measures were taken to reduce the risk of civilian injury, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance and additional intelligence." | BGNES
