Israel has postponed its Rafah offensive that was planned for this week as the country considers a retaliatory attack against Iran.
On April 14, Iran fired 300 missiles and drones at Israel, thus starting a new escalation in tensions in the Middle East, CNN reported.
The attack prompted Israel to postpone plans for an offensive in Rafah, where more than a million people are currently sheltering. An Israeli source said the military remained determined to launch an offensive in Rafah, although it was unclear when exactly that would happen.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stressed the importance of the Rafah offensive to defeat the remaining Hamas forces, despite significant pressure from the US to end an all-out ground attack.
A military response, which risks further escalating the conflict with Iran, would divert the attention and resources of the Israeli military from Gaza, where the Israeli government has vowed to completely defeat Hamas./BGNES
