Defense Minister Yoav Galant said Israel and the United States are "shoulder to shoulder" in the fight against the threat from Iran after speaking with US Central Command head Michael Kurilla.
"Our enemies think they can divide Israel and the United States, but the opposite is true - they bring us closer and strengthen our ties," Galant said after the two discussed Iran's threats to retaliate for the deadly airstrike on its consulate in Syria.
"We stand shoulder to shoulder," Gallant said, adding, "We stand ready to defend ourselves on the ground and in the air, working closely with our partners, and we will know how to respond."
Fears that Iran could soon launch a retaliatory attack have prompted France to advise its citizens to avoid travel to the region.
Israel has said it is beefing up its air defences and suspending combat troop furloughs following the April 1 air strike that killed seven Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fighters, two of them generals.
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that Iran had no choice but to respond to the deadly attack on its diplomatic mission after the UN Security Council failed to act.
US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that Iran was "threatening to carry out a significant attack on Israel", and pledged "ironclad" support for its chief regional ally despite diplomatic tensions over Israel's conduct of the Gaza war. / BGNES
