Over the past two weeks, Israel's Nahal Infantry Brigade has killed more than 250 Hamas fighters in the central Gaza Strip in both ground fire and tank fire and airstrikes, The Times of Israel reported.
The brigade operates in the so-called Netzarim Corridor, which crosses Gaza from the Beeri area to the coast. The corridor allowed the army to carry out attacks in northern and central Gaza. Nahal troops, along with the 601st Combat Engineer Battalion, have destroyed numerous Hamas assets in the area in recent weeks, including rockets, launchers and weapons caches, the army said.
The health ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza said at least 31,553 people had been killed in the territory during the more than five-month-old war between Israel and Palestinian militants. The latest count includes at least 63 deaths in the previous 24 hours, the ministry said in a statement. The wounded number 73,546 people. /BGNES, AFP
