Israel has declared UN chief António Guterres persona non grata. The country accused him of not explicitly condemning Iran's missile attack on Israel.
"Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran's heinous attack on Israel does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil. This is an anti-Israel secretary-general who supports terrorists, rapists and murderers," said Foreign Minister Israel Katz.
Katz pointed out that Guterres, who he said supports "the murderers of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and now Iran, the mother ship of world terror, will be remembered as a blot on UN history for generations to come."
Following Iran's missile attack on Israel late on October 1, Guterres condemned the "expanding conflict in the Middle East."
"This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire," the UN chief said.
Israel has been a sharp critic of the UN. Ties between the country and the international body have deteriorated further since the October 7 Hamas attacks.
Guterres has repeatedly called for a ceasefire to stop the fighting in both Gaza and Lebanon. | BGNES
