Inter's first conceded goal condemned them to debut loss in Champions League

Inter lost to Bayer Leverkusen 0:1 away in one of the most interesting matches of the sixth round of the Champions League main phase on Tuesday night.

The Italian champions had not lost and conceded a goal since the start of the competition, but defender Nordi Mukiele pierced the Nerazzurri guard Yann Sommer in the 90th minute of the match to bring the valuable three points to Xabi Alonso and company.

In the standings, Leverkusen came in second position with 13 points, the same as fourth-placed Inter, and between them is Aston Villa also with 13 points after their 3:2 away victory over RB Leipzig. The loss means that the German team cannot progress to the knockout stages. Brest on the other hand continues its strong performances and is fifth with 13 points.

Leverkusen travel to Atletico Madrid and host Sparta Prague in their last two Champions League matches, while Inter are away to the Czechs and host Monaco at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Elsewhere, Liverpool continued their winning streak after a narrow 1:0 win at Girona. Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot and the Reds, who are top of the table with 18 points, have guaranteed their place in top 8, thus becoming the first team to reach the eliminations in the historic new CL format.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, meanwhile, won their matches against RB Salzburg and Shakhtar Donetsk, respectively.
