India celebrated its 75th Republic Day with a colorful parade in which French President Emmanuel Macron was the chief guest.
The day marks the anniversary of the formal adoption of India's constitution, making it a sovereign republic, the BBC reported.
The parade, held in the capital Delhi, passed through the Debt Road, formerly known as Rajpath, which connects many important landmarks in the city. It culminated in the Red Fort, a 7th-century monument, about 7 kilometers away.
Part of the parade is a demonstration of the country's cultural heritage as well as its military might.
For the first time, an all-female contingent from the ground forces, air force and navy also marched in the parade.
A contingent of the French Army marched alongside counterparts from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and paramilitary units.
The themes of the parade were 'Viksit Bharat' (developed India) and 'Bharat - Loktantra Ki Matruka' or India - the mother of democracy. /BGNES
