South Korean giant Hyundai fears unfair competition from some of its competitors in the construction of units 7 and 8 of the Bulgarian Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) using Westinghouse's AP1000 technology.
The company emphasizes that it will cooperate with the South Korean embassy in Sofia to overcome the difficulties. Hyundai's position was published by the South Korean embassy in Bulgaria, BGNES reported.
Hyundai welcomed today's decisions by the Bulgarian National Assembly's Energy and Environment and Water Committees and believes that the Bulgarian government will properly manage all legal procedures related to the project.
The two parliamentary committees voted NPP Kozloduy - New Capacities to start, conduct and conclude negotiations with Hyundai for the construction of the new units 7 and 8 at the nuclear power plant by April 15, 2024.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is also very interested in Hyundai having the opportunity to contribute to the Bulgarian nuclear power project in Kozloduy. According to the diplomatic mission, this opportunity will further strengthen ties between Sofia and Seoul.
The embassy is closely monitoring the current situation, including today's developments, shares Hyundai's concerns and will communicate with the Bulgarian side whatever is necessary. The diplomatic mission sincerely hopes that South Korea can play a meaningful role in achieving Bulgaria's energy vision.
