Hunter Biden convicted on all charges in gun possession case

Jurors have found Hunter Biden guilty on federal gun possession charges in the first-ever prosecution of a child of a sitting U.S. president.

President Joe Biden's 54-year-old son was convicted on all three charges against him, CNN reported.

Hunter Biden was accused of lying about using illegal drugs when he bought a gun in 2018, which is a felony.

The verdict comes at a time when his father is seeking re-election, and on a day when the president is due to deliver a speech on gun violence.

It also comes less than two weeks after the conviction on business fraud charges of Donald Trump, the likely Republican presidential nominee in November.

Jurors deliberated for about three hours over two days before reaching a guilty verdict.

Hunter Biden did not speak during the weeklong trial, which was held in Biden's hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

First Lady Jill Biden attended several days of the trial. The president was not in attendance but said he and Jill were both "proud" of their son.

"As president, I do not and will not comment on pending federal cases, but as a father, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength," Biden said in an earlier statement.

The proceedings, along with another case in which Hunter Biden is charged with tax evasion in California, have complicated Democrats' efforts to keep the election's focus on Trump, the first former president ever convicted of a felony. | BGNES
