The Hungarian parliament will vote on Sweden's bid for NATO membership on February 26. Hungary is the last country whose consent Stockholm needs, AFP reported.
Mate Kocsis, head of the Fidesz parliamentary group, said he had asked the speaker of the parliament "for the session on February 26 to include in its agenda the final vote on the announcement of the Protocol for the Accession of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty, which our parliamentary group intends to support".
Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Sweden applied to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in May 2022, at the same time as Finland.
Although it supports Stockholm in principle, Budapest extended the process by asking Sweden to stop "vilifying" the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which critics accuse of authoritarianism./BGNES
