The Hungarian parliament has ratified Sweden's application for NATO membership, removing the last obstacle to the expansion of the military alliance caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The parliament approved the application with 188 votes in favour and 6 against the Nordic country's accession.
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the vote.
"I welcome the Hungarian Parliament's vote to ratify Sweden's NATO membership. Now that all allies have approved, Sweden will become the 32nd NATO ally. Sweden's membership will make us all stronger and safer," he said.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said it was a "historic day".
"Today is a historic day. The parliaments of all NATO countries have already voted in favour of Sweden joining NATO. Sweden is ready to assume its responsibility for Euro-Atlantic security," he said. / BGNES
