Hungary canceled a visit by the German foreign minister

Hungary canceled the planned visit of German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock to Budapest. The reason is the criticism that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made regarding Viktor Orbán's visit to Moscow, the "Kyiv Independent" reported.
The Hungarian prime minister met Vladimir Putin on July 5 during an unannounced visit to Moscow, which took place days after he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.
"Viktor Orbán is visiting Putin in his capacity as Hungarian Prime Minister. In the field of foreign policy, the European Council is represented by European Council President Charles Michel," Scholz said, referring to the fact that Hungary recently took over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU.
"The position of the EU is very clear: we condemn Russian aggression. Ukraine can count on our support," added the German chancellor.
Baerbock was due to visit Budapest on July 8, but the trip will be moved to a later date, the German foreign ministry said. | BGNES
