Human rights organizations have condemned the killing of a journalist by the IDF

The Israeli strike in Lebanon that killed one journalist and wounded six others deserves a "war crime" investigation, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch told AFP.

37-year-old Issam Abdallah was killed on the spot in the impact. The others present - two journalists from Reuters, two from Al Jazeera and two from AFP - were injured. AFP photographer Christina Assi, 28, was seriously injured, her leg was later amputated and she is still in hospital./BGNES

An AFP investigation into the strike in south Lebanon on October 13 indicates that it was an anti-tank projectile used only by the Israeli army in this high-tension border region.

The investigation, conducted in conjunction with Airwars, a non-governmental organization that investigates attacks on civilians in conflict situations, found that the attack involved a 120 mm anti-tank projectile used only by the Israeli army in that region.

The nature of the strikes and the lack of military activity in the immediate vicinity of the journalists indicate that the attack was deliberate and targeted.

The investigation is based on evidence gathered from expert analysis of a fragment of ammunition, satellite photos, witness statements and video recordings taken before and during the attack./BGNES
