Cornelia Huetter produced a brilliant ride in the final start of the season at the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup. The Austrian triumphed in the downhill on home soil in Saalbach and gloated with the Crystal Globe in the event after edging out Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami.
Huetter started the race 72 points from first place, but blew away the competition with a time of 1:45.08 seconds. She left 17 hundredths behind second-placed Ilka Stuhec from Slovenia and Italy's Nicol Delago, who came third on the podium. Gut-Behrami lost the lead on the final descent - a 19-point lead over Sofia Goggia of Italy, who did not compete in Saalbach, after finishing just 17th of 20 skiers who completed the course. The only one who did not finish was Victoria Olivier from Austria.
The Austrians Christina Ager, Stephanie Venier and Mirjam Puchner, the Swiss Michelle Gisin, the German Kira Weidle, the Italian Federica Brignone and the Austrian Ariane Raedler also entered the top 10.
In the end, Gut-Behrami fell short of adding a fourth Crystal Globe to her season collection after triumphing in the overall, Super-G and giant slalom. Mikaela Shiffrin wins the Crystal Globe in slalom. For Huetter, this is the first Crystal Globe in her career. She finished third in the super giant slalom and fifth in the overall standings. /BGNES
