Experts from the British programme Gardeners' World have named the basic rules for looking after houseplants in winter. The gardeners shared their winter care rules with the Mirror newspaper.
To prevent central heating having a negative impact on houseplants, experts advise providing plants with extra moisture. However, they note that it is important not to water houseplants frequently during the cool winter months. They should be watered less frequently, but the soil and foliage should be regularly sprayed with a fine spray, the gardeners explained.
To protect plants from overwatering, experts recommend planting them in pots with drainage holes in the bottom and placing the pots on large saucers so excess water can drain away. They also recommend removing the plants from particularly cold windowsills at night.
Previously, people who have spathiphyllum (also called "female happiness") at home were told how to water it properly and what to do to revive the plant if it was drooping. Gardeners note that spagyphilum should be watered sparingly. | BGNES
