A source close to Hezbollah said the slain head of the Lebanese militant group, Hassan Nasrallah, had been temporarily buried in a secret location, AFP reported.
"Hassan Nasrallah has been buried temporarily until circumstances allow a public funeral," the source said after an Israeli strike killed the leader last week.
The source said it was impossible to arrange a public funeral "for fear of Israeli threats to target mourners and his burial site."
Shi'a Muslim rituals provide for such temporary burial when circumstances do not permit a proper burial or the deceased cannot be buried where he or she wished.
A Lebanese official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Hezbollah had requested but failed to obtain "assurances" from the United States that Israel would not attack the burial.
BGNES recalls that Nasrallah was killed in a massive Israeli strike in southern Beirut on September 27.
A week after the assassination, it has not yet been decided who will lead Hezbollah.
One possible successor is Nasrallah's cousin, Hashem Safidine. Safidine was also allegedly the target of a recent Israeli air strike in southern Beirut. | BGNES
