In the late hours of September 20, Hezbollah confirmed that its senior military commander Ibrahim Akil had been killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburb of Beirut, Anatolia news agency reported.
On 21 September, the Lebanese group announced the death of another senior commander. The man in question was Ahmed Mahmoud Wahbi, who led the military operations of the elite Radwan force in support of the Palestinian group Hamas.
Hezbollah described Akil as one of its "senior leaders who was martyred on the road to Jerusalem".
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the airstrike killed at least 14 people and injured 66 others, 9 of whom are in critical condition.
Lebanon's official national news agency reported that the strike hit an apartment in an apartment building in the Jamus area.
The Israeli army confirmed it had killed Akil, along with senior commanders from the elite Radwan group forces.
The strike was Israel's third attack on the southern suburb since clashes began between Israel and Hezbollah following the start of the Gaza war. | BGNES
