A heart surgeon said there are 4 things he avoids to have a healthier life - and body.
Dr. Jeremy London, M.D., told TikTok that some of our habits can increase our risk of cancer, stroke and other diseases - and we may not know it.
Speaking of the "four things I absolutely avoid as a cardiac surgeon," he said the number one was "smoking, without a doubt." While we all know it's bad for us, some people don't know what the risks are that aren't just related to cancer.
"It's the worst thing you can do for your whole body. It destroys your lungs, causes lung cancer, high cardiovascular risks, heart attacks and strokes. Don't smoke," London stated.
In his second warning, the surgeon said he "hate to tell you this," but alcohol should be avoided. While he advocates doing what you want with your body, he notes that for him the risk is not worth it.
"It (alcohol - ed.) is toxic to every cell in your body. Your body, your rules, you, just decide for yourself. For me personally, removing alcohol from my life is probably one of the most transformative decisions I've made as an adult. All the cool kids do it, try it," he stressed.
In his third suggestion, London recommended removing soft drinks from your diet - or at least drinking less of them.
"Soft drinks are liquid death. Just don't drink them. Done," he advised.
Just this week, Mirror Online reported that a neurologist had noted that if you like a glass of fizzy drink, try "replacing just one fizzy drink a day with water or green tea".
The expert explains that cutting down by just a little will help your health in the future, stating:
"Drinks like soda or energy drinks are full of sugar, and we all know that's not good for the body. Ideally we don't drink any of that. Even if you exclude some of these from your daily routine, it can make a big difference in the long run."
In the cardiac surgeon's fourth and final piece of advice he said:
"Avoid bread and pasta, avoid refined flours and weeds. 80% of weight control is diet. 20% is exercise. I guarantee you can 'eat' every exercise you do (meaning - make up for the calories burned - ed.), so be conscious of what you put in your mouth." | BGNES
