England captain Harry Kane has said the team is ready to "make history" ahead of the Three Lions' first game against Serbia on June 15.
In an interview with German magazine Spiegel, the striker backed England's chances of winning the European Championship. England have not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
"I'm not saying we're going to win the tournament for sure, but we have a really good chance," Kane said.
The 30-year-old scored 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions for Bayern Munich and will now lead England at the tournament in Germany.
"In England's history, we've had a hard time crossing the finish line at major tournaments," said the star.
He admitted that losing the Euro 2020 final to Italy on penalties at Wembley was "particularly difficult to overcome".
"We want to make history and the only way to do that is to win the title," stressed Harry Kane.
Despite his stellar career, Kane never won a tag team trophy. Series Bundesliga winners Bayern ended last season without a trophy for the first time in 12 years.
England's all-time top scorer is looking to make amends after missing a crucial penalty in the 2-1 quarter-final loss to France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
"It still hurts and I know that pain will probably never go away," added Kane, who withdrew from social media after missing from the penalty spot.
"I completely retired and just spent time with my family. If I had started reading every headline or scrolling through Instagram and X, I would have gone crazy," commented the goalscorer.
England will spend the tournament in a resort near the German village of Blankenhein, which has three golf courses.
Kane, a keen golfer who has played regularly with German veteran Thomas Müller since moving to Munich, regrets never having enough time to hone his skills further. | BGNES
