Harris to release medical report confirming her ability to be president

Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for the White House, will release a medical report confirming her fitness to be president, her campaign said.

With this report, she wants to put pressure on her rival Donald Trump to release his own medical records.

An adviser to the 59-year-old Harris campaign said the report would contain the following conclusions, "She has the physical and mental resilience to successfully carry out her presidential duties."

The vice president's team aims to put the spotlight on the physical health and mental acuity of 78-year-old former President Trump, who has so far refused to provide detailed medical information.

Republican Trump became the oldest presidential candidate in US history after 81-year-old Joe Biden withdrew from the race for the White House in July.

Biden passed the torch to Harris after a disastrous debate against Trump raised concerns in the Democratic Party about his own mental acuity.

But Trump's apparent vitality means his age has so far not weighed against his chances in the polls in a fierce battle with Harris in the November 5 presidential election.

The Harris campaign addressed a recent series of articles in the New York Times expressing concern over the fact that Trump has not disclosed basic information about his health.

The newspaper also published an analysis of Trump's language showing that his speeches were increasingly long, "jumbled" and vulgar, which it said was seen by experts as a possible sign of cognitive changes

Trump insists he is perfectly healthy but has not released a single full medical report on his campaign.

At the end of 2023. Trump released a note from his former White House doctor stating he was in "excellent" health, but it lacks details and does not say what tests Trump underwent in the September 2023 medical exam.

The same doctor, Ronnie Jackson, issued a statement in July after Trump's ear was wounded by an assassin's bullet during a rally in Pennsylvania saying the former president was doing well.

Meanwhile, in 2018, Trump boasted about the cognitive test he had undergone with Jackson while president - but then immediately dropped his doctor's name, calling him "Ronnie Johnson."

If Trump wins the November election, he will be 82 years old at the end of his second term in the Oval Office. | BGNES
