The militant group Hamas said on Sunday that the October 7 attacks that led to war with Israel were a "necessary step" but "chaos" led to "mistakes" in the operation.
The attacks were "a necessary step and a normal response to confront all Israeli plots against the Palestinian people," the group said in its first public report in 16 pages on Oct. 7. The group added that "some mistakes may have occurred during the execution of the operation due to the rapid collapse of the Israeli security system and the chaos along the border areas with Gaza."
Separately, Hamas called on Israel to immediately stop its "aggression" in Gaza, the crimes and ethnic cleansing committed against the entire population of Gaza." The group said only the Palestinian people would decide the future of the territory.
