Hamas reported the death of one of its commanders and his family in an Israeli strike on a Palestinian refugee camp near Tripoli in northern Lebanon, AFP reported.
The Palestinian group said Said Atallah Ali, his wife and two of his daughters were killed in the strike on the Bedawi camp, the first in that region since the start of the Gaza war.
Hamas says at least 18 of its commanders have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict with Israel began.
The UN estimates that there are still some 250,000 Palestinian refugees and their descendants in Lebanon. According to the organisation, they have sought refuge in the country after being expelled or fleeing their lands at the creation of Israel in 1948.
Under a long-standing agreement, the Lebanese army is not deployed in the Palestinian camps, where security is provided by Palestinian factions. | BGNES
