Haaland's hat-trick catapults Norway into the Nations League elite

Norway won promotion to League A in the Nations League after thrashing Kazakhstan 5-0 at home in their final Group B3 match of the competition.

Striker Erling Haaland unexpectedly became a hero for the Norwegians, who scored a hat-trick and now has 38 goals in 39 games for his country. Alexandre Sorlot and Antonio Noosa scored the other two goals for the hosts. Thus, Norway finished in first place with 13 points, two more than the second-placed Austria, which made a mistake and drew at home with Slovenia - 1:1.

The Austrians needed success to secure promotion but conceded an equalizer just before the end. So they will play a play-off for promotion against a team that finished third in one of the League A groups. Kazakhstan is relegated to League C, and Slovenia will play a play-off to keep its place.
