Grigor Dimitrov defeated Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in a first-round match at Wimbledon. The meeting lasted about an hour and 45 minutes.
In the first match of the program on Court 2, Bulgaria's best tennis player played a wonderful opening two sets in which he made a total of two breaks and did not give a single break point to his opponent. The third part proved to be the most difficult for the Bulgarian, with Lajovic taking an early 3-0 lead. Grigor gradually recovered and broke the Serbian's serve, but had to save two more break points in the eighth game. In the 11th, Dimitrov pressed and made a decisive break, after which he served successfully for a place in the next phase.
The 33-year-old player from Haskovo finished with 16 aces and only 2 double faults. He won an impressive 92% of first serve points and saved three of four break chances against Lajovic. Dimitrov finished with almost twice as many winners as unforced errors – 45 to 23.
In contention for a place in the third round, Bulgaria's first racket will play China's Juncheng Shang, who eliminated Cristian Garin of Chile in three sets. | BGNES
