Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has said he is "lucky to be alive" after suffering a horrific cycling accident that left him with multiple bruises.
The 57-year-old Hell's Kitchen star took to social media to liken herself to a "purple potato" after falling off her bike during a ride in the US, Long Britain's Conversation reported.
Revealing the extent of his horrific injuries, the chef issued a Father's Day appeal to all cyclists about the importance of wearing a helmet and said the simple piece of protection "saved his life".
Speaking directly to his 17.4 million Instagram followers, Ramsay lifted his shirt to reveal his purple torso - the result of the crash in Connecticut while on a trip to America.
"I want to share a very important message with all of you," he said, before describing his love of cycling and his participation in triathlons and Ironman races.
Likening himself to a "purple potato" after the collision, the TV star thanked "all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who took care of him.
He went on to describe how he is most grateful for the helmet that saved his life.
"I'm fine and I haven't broken any bones or suffered any major injuries, but I'm a little blue and look like a purple potato," the chef explained.
The star's hands could be seen shaking anxiously as he described the incident and admitted he was "hurt" after the crash.
Soon, the star's channel was flooded with support from well-wishers, many of whom were shocked by his injuries. | BGNES
