Google introduced its new powerful AI model Gemini

Google has built into its Bard chatbot (a generative AI chatbot developed by Google), its new generative AI model Gemini, which Google says can reason better than ChatGPT and other competitors, Science Alert reported.

The online search giant is aiming to take the generative AI lead from ChatGPT creator OpenAI as the company deals with the fallout from a board shakeup that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and then again appointed within a few days.

Google has been quietly developing AI capabilities for years but was surprised when OpenAI released ChatGPT late last year and teamed up with Microsoft to make its capabilities available to users around the world.

"This is incredible momentum, and yet we're only just beginning to scratch the surface of what's possible," said Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

"This new era of models represents one of the largest scientific and engineering efforts we have undertaken as a company," he added.

"This is the first artificial intelligence model to outperform human experts in certain metrics related to problem-solving, mathematics, physics, history, law, medicine, and ethics," Google DeepMind vice president of products Eli Collins said.

Gemini will be available in English in more than 170 countries and territories, with more languages to be added soon, according to Bard vice president Sissy Hsiao. /BGNES
