Golf's world number 1 Scheffler arrested during second major tournament of the year

The leader in the world golf ranking, Scotty Scheffler, was detained by the police while trying to get to the course where the second major tournament of the year - the PGA Championship - is being held. Scheffler has been in great form since the beginning of the year, triumphing in the first major (Masters) and winning the prestigious tournament The Players Championship.

The American recorded a solid score on the first day of the PGA Championship, going four shots under par and three shots behind leader Zander Schoeffle. He was taken into custody after failing to stop for a police check outside the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Traffic in the area was controlled by law enforcement officers due to a fatal accident on the road. A pedestrian was hit by a bus and died on the spot. According to witnesses, Scheffler did not realize he had to stop, after which two officers blocked his path, handcuffed him and drove him away in a patrol car.

The big question is whether Scheffler will be released from the police department in time to begin the tournament's second day. Otherwise, he will be out of the race, which started as the favorite for the title. /BGNES
