Searches were carried out this morning at the Furstenwalde al-Salam Islamic centre and homes in Brandenburg and Berlin, the provincial interior ministry said.
"The Furstenwalde Islamic Centre is linked to the Islamist terrorist group Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. The organization acts against the free democratic order, spreads anti-Semitic narratives and denies Israel's right to exist. We cannot accept this," said the province's interior minister, Michael Stubgen.
This came less than two weeks before the parliamentary elections in Brandenburg, in which the far-right and anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is expected to make significant gains.
The Islamic Centre in Brandenburg was founded in 2018 and offered a range of activities for Muslims from the Furstenwalde area. It also ran the local Al-Salam mosque.
Brandenburg intelligence chief Jörg Müller said there was a danger that Muslims would be "directly exposed to extremist attitudes and Islamist ideology through the work of the centre."| BGNES
