German police arrest doctor for killing 4 elderly women

A 39-year-old doctor was detained in Berlin on suspicion of murdering four women aged between 72 and 94, Bild reported.

Investigators believe the doctor, who worked in palliative care, set the flats on fire to cover up his crimes.

The man was arrested on Tuesday, August 6, in connection with the acts in the Berlin districts of Neukölln and Plenterwald.

"The accused is suspected of killing four female patients in an as yet unknown manner between June 11 and July 24, and then setting fire to their homes," the police said.

The man has been charged with four counts of manslaughter, one count of arson and three counts of attempted arson.

In one case, an 87-year-old woman was resuscitated after emergency services arrived but later died in hospital.

In another case, a fire allegedly started by the suspect was extinguished.

"When he realized this, he allegedly notified a relative of the woman and claimed that he was standing outside her apartment and that no one was answering his doorbell," authorities said. I BGNES
