Greece hopes to become an integral part of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and become India's gateway to the European Union, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis said during his visit to New Delhi.
This ambitious connectivity project will "increase the strategic importance of the participating regions both economically and geopolitically, while promoting peace and stability," Gerapetritis said in remarks at the India-Europe-Business and Sustainability conference.
Gerapetritis is in India ahead of the visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on February 21, accompanied by a business delegation of 100 Greek entrepreneurs who want to explore the prospects for cooperation. He greeted the Confederation of Indian Industry along with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar after their bilateral meeting.
During the meeting with his Indian counterpart, Gerapetritis highlighted the great opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in combating challenges, including the impact of the Red Sea crisis on the security of international shipping. IMEC offers great opportunities for closer links between Greece and India through the Middle East, he added.
India's foreign minister said the strategic relationship is important as the two countries can work to resolve regional challenges and seek corridors connecting the markets of India, the Pacific and Europe.
The Indian minister showed particular interest in learning more about plans to transport "green" hydrogen and also discussed with Gerapetritis the possibility of promoting peace and stability throughout the Middle East by connecting India to Europe via Greece./BGNES
