Georgia passes controversial 'foreign influence' law on first reading

Georgian MPs adopted the law on "foreign influence" in the first reading, AFP reported.
In recent weeks, the law has sparked widespread protests and criticism over its similarity to Russia's repressive "foreign agents" law.
A rally is planned tonight against the measure, which has caused concern in the West.
The ruling Georgian Dream party introduced the bill to parliament earlier this month, a year after it was forced to abandon a similar measure following popular backlash. /BGNES
