Francis Ford Coppola's Grand Return to Cannes

40 years and over 100 million dollars: that's how long it took Francis Ford Coppola to make his film Megalopolis.

Ahead of its premiere in cinemas in September, the director and his team presented the world premiere last night at the Cannes Film Festival.

The 85-year-old American filmmaker couldn't have been better surrounded for his comeback.

He was joined on the red carpet by his family, including his sister Talia Scheyer (who plays Connie, the bride in The Godfather) and her son Robert, his son Roman Coppola and his granddaughter Romy Mars (daughter of Sofia Coppola and French musician Thomas Mars of the band Phoenix).

The five-star cast of "Megalopolis" was also in Cannes. Б. Sweney, Grace Vanderwall, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Natalie Emanuel, Laurence Fishburne...

May 16 was not only the world premiere of "Megalopolis". It was also one of the 22 feature films in competition this year.

Having already won two Palme d'Or, in 1979 for "Apocalypse Now" and in 1974 for "Secret Conversation", Francis Ford Coppola can go home with a third prize.

It remains to be seen whether this futuristic drama will win over American director Greta Gerwig and the jury. We'll find out at the closing ceremony on Saturday, May 25. / BGNES
