France's Macron announces bill for assisted dying

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the bill, which opens the way for "assistance to end one's life" under "strict conditions", will be presented to the Council of Ministers in April for a first reading in the National Assembly in May. AFP reported.

Adult patients "capable of full reasoning" suffering from an "incurable illness" with a "short- or medium-term life prognosis" and experiencing "intractable" suffering (which cannot be alleviated) will be able to "request to be assisted to die ", the head of state told the newspapers La Croix and Libération. If the medical team gives a positive opinion, the patient will be prescribed a lethal substance, which he will be able to administer himself or with the help of a third person if he is "not physically able to do so". /BGNES
