Villarreal and Real Madrid ended in a 4:4 draw in an extremely spectacular clash of the penultimate 37th round of the Spanish La Liga.
At La Ceramica, the visitors, who had already secured a record 36th national championship title, played a blistering first half in which they took a 4:1 lead. Arda Guler scored twice and Joselu and Lucas Vazquez added two more for the Royal Club, while Alexander Sorloth was on target for the "Yellow Submarine" before the break.
However, the 28-year-old Norwegian was far from having his last word, producing a superb second half in which he single-handedly sealed the point for Villarreal with three goals in the space of eight minutes. No new goals were scored until the end and the match ended in a spectacular 4:4. Thus, the hosts lost chances of a place in Europe next season.
Meanwhile, Real Sociedad secured sixth place in the final standings after beating arch-rivals Betis 2:0 in Seville.
Cadiz is officially the third relegated team this campaign, joining Granada and Almeria. The team is four points behind league leaders Mallorca with a round to go after drawing 0:0 with Las Palmas, while the Balearic side picked up a point at home to Almeria after a 2:2 draw.
