Former Pakisan PM Imran Khan sentenced to 14 years in prison

A Pakistani court has convicted former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in a landmark graft case.

"The prosecution has proved its case. Khan has been convicted," said Justice Nasir Javed Rana, announcing a sentence of 14 years in jail for Khan and seven years for Bibi.

Bibi, meanwhile, received a sentence of seven years in prison, AFP reported.

The anti-corruption court gathered in a jail near the capital Islamabad, where Khan is being held, and convicted the pair over a social foundation they set up together called the Al-Qadir Trust.

Khan has been in jail since August 2023, accused in some 200 cases he says are politically motivated and aimed at preventing him from returning to power.

He has vowed that he will "make no deal" with the authorities.

"I will not make any deals nor seek any relief," Khan told reporters.

His wife Bushra Bibi was recently released from jail after the conviction against her was quashed, but she was re-arrested after the verdicts were handed down. | BGNES
