Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" ranks between 661-670 of the most prestigious universities in the world for 2025, according to the QS World University Rankings.
The top three are headed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by Imperial College London and the University of Oxford. Harvard University remains fourth.
Greece is the Balkan country that scores the best performance in the ranking, with 7 Greek universities making it.
Ahead of the Bulgarian Alma Mater are the National Technical University of Athens (321st place), the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (393rd place), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (508th place) and the University of Crete (601-610th place).
3 Romanian universities were also included in the ranking, none of them ahead of SU.
BGNES reminds the University of Sofia is the only Bulgarian higher education institution that entered the QS World University Rankings.
For the current year 2024, Bulgarian Alma Mater took 741 places. This marked a significant drop in the university's performance, after being ranked 561 a year earlier.
The ranking includes 1,500 universities in 104 countries and focuses on post-graduate employability and sustainability.
This year, 3 new indicators have been introduced into the methodology: sustainability, employment outcomes and international research network.
The results are based on the analysis of 17.5 million academic documents and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic teachers and employers. | BGNES
