Football and rugby kick off the Olympic Games two days before the opening ceremony

The actual sports battles of the Olympic Games in Paris begin today - July 24, two days before the opening ceremony in the French capital. Traditionally, the football tournament will start earlier, and as many as eight matches will be played on Wednesday.

Teams in the men's football tournament are made up of players up to the age of 23, with each team entitled to three players over that age. World champions Argentina, European champions Spain, as well as France, USA, Ukraine, Japan, Paraguay and others enter the battle for medals.

A total of 16 teams participate, which are divided into four groups, and the first two teams from each group proceed to the quarterfinals. The champions of the last two editions of the Olympic Games, Brazil, will not participate.

In the most interesting match on Wednesday, France faces the USA.

That's not all from the Olympics for Wednesday, as the rugby competition also kicks off then. Curiously, there will also be a battle between the national teams of France and the USA today. | BGNES
