Ash spewed from the Popocatépetl volcano near Mexico City prompted some airlines to cancel about two dozen flights to and from the Latin American capital, authorities said.
Mexico City International Airport said on social media that national and international operators had cancelled 22 flights "due to ash being found during aircraft safety checks".
The airport's arrivals and departures log seen by AFP noted cancelled and delayed flights, although no reasons were given.
Authorities have warned that ash could fall in the states of Morelos, Puebla and Mexico, as well as in Mexico City, which is about 90 km. from the volcano.
Since Popocatépetl became active in December 1994, after a six-decade lull, climbs have been banned, the climbers' hostel has been closed and access to the crater has been restricted.
Since then, there has been increased activity and evacuations of residents of nearby rural communities have sometimes been necessary.
About 25 million people live within a 60-mile radius of the volcano, making it one of the most dangerous in the world, although there has not been a massive eruption in more than a millennium. / BGNES
