Five of the six cross-country skiers who went missing in the Swiss Alps over the weekend have been found dead, police in the canton of Valais said, AFP reported.
The last person in the group is still being sought.
Bad weather conditions complicated the search, but a team of rescuers was finally dispatched to the area, where they "found the bodies of five of the six people reported missing," the police statement said.
The group of skiers, who range in age from 21 to 58, left Zermatt on the morning of March 9 with the aim of reaching the town of Arola later that day. However, they disappear in the vicinity of the Tet Blanche mountain.
A storm over the weekend prevented helicopters and rescuers from reaching the area, but last night a team was finally able to be brought down by helicopter nearby.
Five of the group are members of the same family, but police have not yet released the identities of the bodies found.
A press conference is expected later in the day in the cantonal capital of Sion. /BGNES
