Fire-stricken Hollywood awaits Academy Awards nominations

This year's Oscar nominations will be unveiled today in an announcement delayed by the devastating fires in Los Angeles.

The nominations will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

The Emilia Perez musical is expected to top the highly competitive list.

Voting deadlines had to be extended this month as the U.S. entertainment capital and Oscars host city was devastated by multiple fires that killed more than two dozen people and forced tens of thousands to flee the region.

Nominees will be revealed virtually and under more subdued circumstances as the city, which usually focuses on the Oscars race, has more pressing tasks to tackle.

Even so, the glitzy Oscars ceremony itself will still take place on March 2, and the stars and studios that have spent months and millions of dollars on campaigns will learn whether they made the cherished final lists. | BGNES
