Fire destroys 3,000 electric vehicles in Vietnam

Thick smoke rises from a warehouse belonging to DK Vietnam-Japan Electric Vehicle Company in the city of Lang Son. The fire broke out around 7:00 am (local time) on October 4. Several explosions were heard.

Over 2,000 electric motorcycle components were also destroyed in the flames.

Hoang Van Khoi, husband of the company's founder, confirmed that there was a fire but gave no details.

According to state broadcaster VTV, the fire started on the second floor of the parts warehouse spreading to other floors and neighbouring workshops.

The DK Bike electric vehicle factory covers an area of more than 3,000 square metres and includes rooms for production, assembly, parts and a showroom for finished vehicles.

The fire is now mostly extinguished and authorities are investigating the causes.

According to DK Bike's website, this is a Vietnamese-Japanese joint venture. The company specializes in the production of bicycles, electric bicycles, electric motorcycles and 50cc small-displacement motorcycles. | BGNES
